Possible Dissertation Topic

Prior to my entry to the DIT program of the Technological Institute of the Philippines, I was instructed to submit a concept paper on possible topic or area that I intend to tackle in my dissertation after the academic courses of the DIT Program. I was then firm on going for emphatic computing in application to Disaster Management and Response.  This was possibly because of my previous experiences in our province which has been constantly visited by typhoons and other natural calamities.  I wished to make a difference then along this area.  My first research output in the DIT program is a simulation concept that would predict the possible tracks that lava would take during volcanic eruptions with considerations to other significant parameters associated with this natural phenomenon.  I read a lot of researches along this area and found out that the concept of lava flow simulation can be modified to handle other similar natural phenomenon like flood and tsunamis.  I considered GIS as part of the parameters for this study.  I was then firm to improve this research to qualify for dissertation topic.

When I took Data Mining and Warehousing course and IT Protection and Security, my focus changed  a little bit.  The things I learned from the subject took my interest and considered them as a possible topic.  My research interest then shifted to SMS and Social Media Messages as data sets for a possible topic along prediction, classification and pattern identification.

Along IT security, I was asked to discuss a topic during one of our meetings in the subject.  The topic assigned to me was Diffie Hellman key exchange which was the basis of the El Gamal Cryptosystem that utilizes public and private keys in encrypting information.  I learned that the method only works between two nodes but consumes a lot of time during the process of encryption and decryption.  Because of this, El Gamal is just normally used in digital signatures after encrypting a plaintext using other cryptosystems.  I was also contemplating on taking this as a topic in dissertation.  I wish to determine if there is a possibility of  modifying the El Gamal Algorithm in such a way that the encryption process would be done using several keys and could only be decrypted with the availability of these keys.  Just a single key will not suffice to break the encrypted information.  I already read a lot of researches along these area and have not come across a research similar to my idea.

If I will be asked on what possible topics am I considering on taking for my dissertation, I would go for the topics below listed according to my area of interest and priority.

1) Enhancement of El Gamal Cryptosystem incorporating several keys during encryption and decryption.

2) Data mining Social Media Information to classify then according to the interest of a group or individuals.

3) Simulation of Lava Flow using GIS and PhilVolcs information as parameters.

Most of my finished researches are along these tracks and there are available Datasets that I could use in the Province where I came from.
